Packing Day Initiative Supports Cobar Community
On 18 December 2025, Aurelia Metals employees came together in Cobar to pack and donate emergency bags for people experiencing domestic and family violence, supporting a local domestic violence shelter during a time of increased need.
The initiative was supported and driven by Aurelia’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee and focused on providing practical assistance to people in crisis within the local community.
The emergency bags were donated later that day to Catholic Care Wilcannia-Forbes to support individuals and families who may need to leave unsafe situations quickly, often with little notice or access to personal belongings. Items included essentials to support comfort and dignity during an extremely difficult time, including items that may not always be front of mind in an emergency. ‘Mum and Bub’ bags were also prepared, containing personal items specifically selected to support mothers and their babies when accessing emergency accommodation.
Catholic Care Wilcannia-Forbes Chief Executive Officer, Anne-Marie Mioche welcomed the donation, highlighting the importance of practical and community-led support.
“Women and children fleeing domestic and family violence often come to our service with almost nothing,” Anne-Marie said.
“The journey to safety for our clients is incredibly difficult. The emergency bags of essential items importantly provide for practical needs, while also showing the community cares about them and wants to lift them up.
“At Catholic Care Wilcannia-Forbes, we believe everyone has a part to play in addressing domestic and family violence. We are very grateful to Aurelia for their commitment to this cause and for their very generous ‘go bag’ donation,” Anne-Marie concluded.
Aurelia General Manager – People and Culture, Jessie Hommelhoff said the initiative reflects the Company’s commitment to providing tangible support for people when it matters most.
“Supporting people in our communities is an important part of how we think about care and wellbeing. This initiative, alongside the launch of our Domestic and Family Violence Procedure, is about ensuring there are practical supports available for people who may be facing incredibly challenging circumstances and need help urgently,” Jessie said.
The initiative also highlights the role employees can play in supporting safety, dignity and care beyond the workplace, particularly within Aurelia’s communities.
