Modification to Federation Mine Development Consent Approved

On Thursday 27 March 2025, the New South Wales (NSW) Department of Planning, Housing and Infrastructure (DPHI) approved a modification (MOD 2) to our Federation Mine development consent.

The modification application was initially made in April 2024 and was on public exhibition during November and December the same year. Several submissions were received while the application was on exhibition, all of which were addressed in our Response to Submissions, lodged in February 2025.

Updates to the development consent outline in MOD 2 includes:

  • ore haulage between 7.00am and 10.00pm, extending haulage time by three hours
  • transportation of up to 600 thousand tonnes per annum (ktpa) of ore to the Peak Processing Plant, an increase of 400ktpa from the first year of the project.

Chief Development and Technical Officer, Andrew Graham spoke about the approval of MOD 2 and the priorities for the Aurelia team post-approval.

“The approval of MOD 2 is a key step in our plan to optimise the value of our Cobar region operations, by processing the high value Federation ores through the perfectly suited Peak processing plant.  It would not have been possible without the efforts of our Environment and Community teams and the strong community support for our activities in the Cobar region.

“Our Teams will now focus on post-approval actions, including updating necessary management plans in consultation with the DPHI.,” Andrew said.
