New Cobar Complex Project Delivers Funding Boost for Cobar Community

Aurelia Metals has reaffirmed its commitment to the future of the Cobar region, with Voluntary Planning Agreement (VPA) contributions totalling more than $316,000. This is the first annual payment agreed to coincide with the commencement of physical works under the approved State Significant Development New Cobar Complex Project.

The New Cobar Complex Project was approved by the NSW Government and brings together underground mining operations across the New Cobar, Great Cobar, Gladstone, Chesney and Jubilee deposits into a single integrated project designed to support the long-term future of mining in the region.

The VPA funding will be provided to Cobar Shire Council and includes support for the Community Enhancement Fund, Early Learning Centre and Resource Contributions. The funding was ceremonially presented to Cobar Mayor, Jarrod Marsden at Aurelia’s Community Meeting held at the Cobar Bowls and Golf Club on 18 May.

General Manager Cobar Region, Angus Wyllie, said the contribution reflects Aurelia’s long-term commitment to supporting resilient and sustainable regional communities.

“This is an important milestone for Aurelia and the Cobar community. The New Cobar Complex Project represents the future of mining in the region and these VPA contributions are one way we can help ensure the benefits of that future are shared more broadly across the community,” Angus said.

“We know strong regional communities rely on access to quality services and infrastructure. Through these Agreements, we are proud to support initiatives that help attract and retain families, strengthen local services and support the future sustainability of the region,” Angus concluded.

The contributions align with Aurelia’s Sustainability Strategy and its focus on building strong partnerships with the communities where the Company operates. VPAs play an important role in supporting council-led initiatives that strengthen regional services and infrastructure.

Through continued collaboration with local stakeholders, Aurelia remains committed to supporting a resilient and connected Cobar community.
