Great Cobar Project Commencement and Anniversary of the New Cobar Decline

On 1 July 2025, Aurelia Metals celebrated the commencement of development at its Great Cobar Project. The date is also marked the 21st anniversary of the New Cobar decline, the entrance to the Great Cobar Project.

Aurelia General Manager Cobar Region, Angus Wyllie hosted a morning tea at the Great Cobar Museum – the original Great Cobar Mine Administration Building – to mark the occasion. Guests included the Member for Barwon, the Hon. Roy Butler; Cobar Shire Council Mayor, Jarrod Marsden; the General Manager of the Cobar Shire Council, Peter Vlatko; members of the Community Consultative Committee and the Company’s senior site leaders.

Celebrations continued with site-wide BBQs for the Peak, New Cobar and Great Cobar workforce which will continue during the week, with additional events planned throughout the year.

Acknowledging the date’s significance, Angus noted the Great Cobar Project represents the continuation of the mine’s historic connection to Aurelia’s workforce and their families, and the Company’s operations in the region.

“Today is a celebration of Cobar’s great history and Aurelia’s bright future as we mark the commencement of operations at our Great Cobar Project,” Angus said.

“The 21st anniversary of underground operations at New Cobar is also a significant milestone for Aurelia given it’s from here that we’ll develop the Great Cobar Project and will continue to explore our Chesney and Jubilee orebodies.

“Today is the culmination of countless hours of hard work and dedication from our workforce, including our Exploration, Project Studies and site teams,” Angus concluded.

Aurelia Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer, Bryan Quinn added the Great Cobar Project symbolises the Company’s commitment to the development of the vibrant mining community in Cobar.

“Our Great Cobar Project is a significant growth opportunity for our business at a time when our Federation Mine is ramping up to full production. Significantly, the self-funded Great Cobar Project will add full-time roles to our workforce at Peak and provide additional flow on benefits to the Cobar community, broader Barwon electorate, and regional New South Wales.

“The Great Cobar Project adds to our long mine-life and highly prospective land package in the Cobar Region. We look forward to continuing to be a part of the Cobar community for many years to come, while adding value for our shareholders by producing the commodities that will assist with the decarbonisation of the world,” Bryan said.
